Where your voice goes. And where it doesn’t.
We don’t claim “100% private.” That would be a lie the moment you use cloud cleanup. Here is what actually happens.
Stays on your Mac
- Your voice, recorded and transcribed entirely on-device
- A local speech engine, running on your Mac, no account
- Your dictation history and corrections, stored locally
- Basic on-device cleanup, if you turn cloud cleanup off
Can leave, if you ask
- Only the transcribed text, and only if you turn on cloud cleanup
- Managed cleanup sends the text through Rede, never the audio
- Routed through our licence-gated service, so your Rede key stays yours
- Bring-your-own-key cleanup sends text to the provider you configure, not through us
- Never the audio. There is no audio server to send it to.
Your audio never leaves your Mac.
Transcription is the part that handles your actual voice, and it runs 100% on-device with a local speech engine. There is no upload step, because there is no server listening for your audio. That is true whether or not you ever touch the cloud.
Cleanup is the only cloud step, and it’s optional
Turning raw transcription into clean, finished writing (dropping the “um”s, fixing grammar) is where Rede optionally runs managed cleanup. Only the text goes, never the audio. That step is ours. The details of how we run it stay in the privacy policy.
Two other cleanup paths
Prefer nothing to leave at all? Switch on the basic on-device cleanup, which fixes punctuation and filler words entirely offline. Bring your own model key if you want a cloud model you control: the text then goes to the provider and endpoint you configure, not through Rede. Managed cleanup is the option we run for you.
Your vocabulary stays local
Words and spelling rules you teach Rede are stored on your Mac and applied there. We do not collect your dictations or vocabulary to train anything.
Decide what leaves. Then talk.
