We don’t claim “100% private.” That would be a lie the moment you use cloud cleanup. Here is the honest, complete picture, so you can decide what leaves your Mac.
- Your voice, recorded and transcribed entirely on-device
- A local speech engine, running on your Mac, no account
- Your dictation history and corrections, stored locally
- Everything, if you keep cleanup off the cloud: your own key or basic on-device cleanup
- Only the transcribed text, and only if you turn on cloud cleanup
- Sent to Google's paid Gemini service, where it is not used to improve Google products
- Routed through our licence-gated service, so your key stays yours
- Never the audio. There is no audio server to send it to.
Your audio never leaves your Mac.
Transcription is the part that handles your actual voice, and it runs 100% on-device with a local speech engine. There is no upload step, because there is no server listening for your audio. That is true whether or not you ever touch the cloud.
Cleanup is the only cloud step, and it’s optional
Turning raw transcription into clean, finished writing (dropping the “um”s, fixing grammar) is where Rede optionally calls a cloud model. Only the text goes, never the audio. Rede uses Google’s paid Gemini service, where prompts and responses are not used to improve Google products. Google’s abuse-monitoring retention still applies.
Two ways to keep even that off the cloud
Prefer nothing to leave at all? Bring your own model key, so the call is yours end-to-end, or switch on the basic on-device cleanup, which fixes the obvious things (punctuation, filler words) entirely offline. Cloud stays the best-quality option for when you want it.
Your vocabulary stays local
Words and spelling rules you teach Rede are stored on your Mac and applied there. We do not collect your dictations or vocabulary to train anything.
